Benafim is a small town and was a community until 2012 (about 1,050 inhabitants) in the county of Loulé. In the course of reforms it has been merged, together with the community Tôr, into the União das Freguesias de Tôr e Benafim.

Coordinates: 37° 14′ N, 8° 7′ W

The small town is situated by the N124 which crosses the M524-2 in the urban area. 


Benafim lies within the hinterland of the Algarve. It is the very place for strolling with leisure.


In the town area are banks, the post office, diverse shops as well as several gastronomic establishments. 


The village square in Benafim is a meeting point for the young and the old.  


A well is in town where one can scoop drinking water of very good quality.   


Pátio de Dona Antónia

The Pátio de Dona Antónia is accessible to the public and reminds of the name giver (b. 1907 in Alvor – d. 2006 in Benafim).

Dona Antónia owned the biggest farm of the Algarve.


With the help of her prosperity she supported above all children and socially deprived people in the county of Loulé. She also contributed substantially to developing the infrastructure, social institutions and to maintaining the rural culture.


Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Glória

The Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Glória is located west of the village center and is signposted.

The church can only be visited during a mass.


The church being renovated several times is said to be erected upon the foundations of a Moorish mosque. It is not clear when the church has been constructed.
