Odeleite is a village and a community (about 780 inhabitants) in the county of Castro Marim.

Coordinates: 37° 20′ N, 7° 29′ W

The village is situated by the N122, roughly 10 km north of the county town, by the storage reservoir Albufeira da Barragem de Odeleite.  To the Rio Guadiana, the natural border with Spain, it is 2 km.


The locality is situated by the eastern slope of a hill. The streets are very narrow and steep. It is difficult to find a parking place directly in the locality. 

 


There are banks, the post office, restaurants, cafés and shopping facilities. 


Barragem de Odeleite

The storage reservoir was finished in the year 1997 after 5 years of construction.

The Barragem de Odeleite is of about 7,2 km² length and dams up to 130 Mio. m³ water.

The highway IC27 (Villa Real – Beja) runs over the reservoir dam, the construction volume of which is roughly 1 Mio. m³. 

 


Igreja Matriz de Odeleite

The Igreja Matriz de Odeleite was built in the first half of the 16th century.
