Pêra (about 2,400 inhabitants) was an independent community until 2013 and has been blended, in the course of the local government reorganization, with the community Alcantarilha into the União das Freguesias de Alcantarilha e Pêra.

The N125 brushes the town in the North. The center consists of winding alleys and a mixture of modern residences and the typical Portuguese townhouses.
