Querença is a community and a small town (about 750 inhabitants) at the southern foothills of the Serra do Caldeirão in the county of Loulé.

Coordinates: 37° 12′ N, 7° 59′ W

The locality is by the N396, about 10 km north of Loulé. In town are allocated parking spaces.

Querença is a placid locality in the hinterland of the Algarve. The environs are agricultural.

The town center has been converted during the last years. It is untypical for the Algarve. One feels rather like relocated to Middle America.

Museum

The water museum being directly by the square is worth a visit.

The explanations of how important water is for the region are quite vivid.

A simple but well functioning method to pump up water. Still today this technique is employed in a similar form.

For the time being the explanations in writing are only at hand in Portuguese language. At the reception, however, one will help you with pleasure.

Here at the reception you will find free information about the town and about the communities of the county of Loulé.

Opening hours: Mon. – Fri. 9 – 13 h and 14 to 17 h

Igreja Matriz de Querença
Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Assunção

The community church was built between 1520 and 1530.

Coordinates: 37 ° 11 ‘N 7 ° 59’ W

After the earthquake of 1755 the building has been renovated.

The layout and feel of the church is bright and pleasant. The altar is quite showy with its rich decorations.

The church can be visited during the mass and during the opening hours of the water museum. Please ask the friendly lady at the reception over there.
