The West

The western part of the Algarve comprises the counties of Lagos, Monchique, Vila do Bispo and Aljezur. The west coast, in large parts, is still very pristine, and it is a natural reserve (Costa Vicentina). Everything here is a bit harsher, steeper and the surf is wilder.

The west coast of the Algarve is spectacular. It is 55 km of diversified coast mainly consisting of rocks and punctuated with beautiful beaches.

Sunsets over the Atlantic can be very well watched from here.

Many of the beaches are popular especially with surfers.

A broad view upon the end of the world as it was known until the 15th century.

Starting from Lagos the Portuguese circumnavigated Africa. Furthermore, they found a sea route to India, to China and in 1543 they discovered Japan.

The bay of Lagos delivers what one promises: Sun, sand, sea as well as culture and leisure pursuit.
