The Igreja was constructed after the earthquake of 1755; the original church had been completely destroyed.

Igreja Nova São Pedro do Mar
Today’s parish church of the town has been built at the end of the 20th century upon the hill above the locality.

The complex comprises 2 buildings which are connected by a courtyard open at the sides.
A scene of the Bible is depicted by means of a big picture (18 m x 3 m) made of Azulejos (painted tiles).
The interior of the church is designed in a simple and bright style.
You can only visit it during a mass.
